The Australian Taxation Office will conduct a data matching program of visa holders, international students who work in Australia and migration agents who help people migrate to Australia.
Personal records for the period 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2020 of over 20 million visa holders who have lived in Australia will be obtained from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection over the next three years and electronically matched with ATO data to check if they have complied with their tax and superannuation obligations.
The program will also be used to identify non compliance with Australia’s foreign investment rules.
Information to be collated includes the address and contact history (over 10 years) of visa applicants and their sponsors, all visa grants, all international travel movements (both arrivals and departures) and details of their education provider if they are on a student visa.
