Theo Kalyvas

Theo has practised in the area of construction, infrastructure and major projects for over 25 years. Over this period he has advised and acted for Government departments and instrumentalities, private and public companies and household names in the construction and engineering area.

He has advised on major infrastructure projects, major commercial and residential work, complex engineering plants, from concept stage through to implementation and completion. He has also given advice on contracting models and procurement arrangements best suited to achieving client’s goals and expectations as well as negotiating and drafting all aspects of project documentation.

He is well regarded in handling and managing complex construction and engineering disputes, whether in a negotiated environment or otherwise. His knowledge of his clients’ businesses and business operations allows him to provide advice to clients to administer contracts with the aim of avoiding disputes wherever possible and focussed ‘best for project’ delivery.

Experience

Theo’s recent experience includes:

  • Roma K129: Advisor to pipeline contractor on arbitration of major claims on the Gladstone to Roma GLNG K129 project;
  • Ravenhall Prison Project: Advised head engineering contractor on contract and contract claims;
  • Urban Workshop: Advised industry superannuation fund on all construction documentation for 50 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne;
  • Department of Justice: Lead lawyer in the redevelopment of the Victorian State Coronial Services Centre;
  • Peppertree: Lead lawyer for this EPC project; documenting construction of a major processing facility and associated rail infrastructure;
  • BassWater: Part of the consortium team bid for the Victorian Desalination project;
  • Victorian Government: Advised on contamination claims from the Mont Park Hospital redevelopment;
  • Powercor Network Services: Advised on the downstream D&C arrangements for the Bald Hills Wind Farm development;
  • Footscray Football Club: Lead lawyer on the complete redevelopment of the Whitten Oval; and
  • Multiplex Constructions: Advised on the claims arising out of the redevelopment of the Epworth Hospital.
