Holden announces date for end to Australian vehicle manufacturing

Market Insights

Holden has announced that 20 October 2017 will be the last day for its Australian motor vehicle manufacturing operations.

The announcement comes in the wake of Holden’s decision in December 2013 to bring an end to Australian motor vehicle manufacturing and to Australian production of Holden’s 3.0 litre and 3.6 litre V6 engines in November 2016.

Holden estimates that a further 30,000 vehicles will be manufactured in Australia between now and the 20 October deadline.

While ceasing motor vehicle manufacturing operations in Australia, Holden will retain design and engineering staff beyond 2017, in addition to its corporate staff.

State Government funding grants are available in South Australia and Victoria to eligible individuals and businesses affected by the end to Australian motor vehicle manufacturing.
