Victoria advises foreign and domestic insurers and reinsurers on coverage and liability issues in relation to directors’ and officers’, professional indemnity, general liability and indemnity policies.

Victoria has experience in both managing complex litigation (including class actions) and providing policy interpretation and coverage advice. In the class action space, Victoria has been involved in some of Australia’s most prominent class actions in the securities, D&O and general liability space in either a coverage or monitoring counsel role.

Experience

Victoria’s experience includes advising:

  • an insurer in relation to a significant proceeding commenced in respect of major contamination issues at an Australian airport;
  • a client concerning a regulatory investigation and successfully conducting statutory investigation in connection with complaint made to the Crime and Corruption Commission regarding conduct within a Queensland Government Agency;
  • a client concerning proceedings commenced in relation to remediation and rectification works undertaken in relation to a major development in Sydney;
  • a client in relation to class action proceedings commenced by armed services personnel concerning an alleged breach of contract claim;
  • an insurer in relation to class action proceeding commenced against directors of a pharmaceutical company concerning allegations related to non-disclosure;
  • an insurer in relation to recovery of investors’ funds that were misappropriated by an employee and liaiasing with ASIC after criminal charges were made against the employee;
  • an insurer concerning a Singaporean International Arbitration Court proceeding regarding the interpretation of a contentious policy wording; and
  • an insurer concerning numerous claims involving an AFS licensee and authorised representatives in respect of allegations of inappropriate gearted investments.
