Sonya Kroon

Sonya has assisted clients in construction projects for over 15 years.

Her projects span a diverse range across a number of industry sectors including mixed residential/retail/commercial developments, industrial facilities (including automation), retail, marine infrastructure, airports, government infrastructure, shopping centres, roads, recreational and other facilities.

Sonya has particular expertise in procurement and tender processes, construction and infrastructure project documentation, project administration and delivery, claims, disputes and dispute resolution.

Sonya has represented clients on both contentious and non-contentious matters and is highly regarded for her ability to facilitate projects, and her pragmatic approach and accurate, commercial advice.

Experience

Sonya’s recent experience includes:

  • Cbus Property (property arm of Cbus Superannuation):

    • 77 Market Street:
    • a joint development with Scentre for the construction of mixed retail/commercial and residential in the heart of the CBD;
    • advice on implementation of Development Agreement terms with Scentre, early engagement of consultants, design competition process and procurement of build phase;
    • Newmarket Randwick:
    • 5 hectare development in 3 phases of mixed retail/residential in Randwick comprising 19 buildings, accommodating 642 residential dwellings and 2,390m2 of retail/commercial uses (being the former Inglis Stable complex);
  • Department of Industry (Transport for NSW Panel) – Eden Wharf redevelopment – this project is classified as State Significant Infrastructure which will ultimately enable berthing of cruise shops of 325m in length to the port of Eden. Advised in the planning and development phases including the procurement phases of business relocation, engineering consultancies, dredging, marine infrastructure, port protection and facility operation and management; and
  • Hobart Airport – international terminal expansion Phase 1 works – this project has an estimated value of $200M. Advice on early works packages, Borderforce Agreement with Commonwealth government and procurement model for main works.
