Simon Crawford

Simon acts for a range of banking and financial services organisations and corporate clients providing legal advice across issues relating to fraud and forgeries, breach of contract, misleading, deceptive and unconscionable conduct. He has gained his expertise from over 20 years experience in both private practice and as a Deputy General Counsel at a major Australian bank.

Simon also advises and acts in trusts and wills and estates litigation. His clients include large charitable institutions and Trustee Services companies.

A skilled negotiator, Simon has participated in numerous mediations and has completed a 5 day Mediation workshop conducted by LEADR, the first step towards achieving national specialist accreditation in mediation.

Experience

Simon’s recent experience includes:

  • ANZ Bank: Advice on legacy litigious exposures in India in relation to Grinlays Bank;
  • Wales v Wales: Acted for former Trustees in relation to Supreme Court litigation;
  • West Coast Group: Acted for property developer in Supreme Court litigation with adjoining land owner;
  • Major insurance underwriter: Acted in relation to a multi-million dollar fraud allegedly committed by a former employee. This involved obtaining urgent freezing orders and search and seizure orders, negotiating a confidential settlement of Supreme Court proceedings, advising on reputational risk issues and handing it off to solicitors for our client’s lead insurers to oversee the settlement; and
  • Major Australian Bank: Acted in relation to termination of a contract with a software developer.
