Michael specialises in intellectual property and information technology.

Michael assists clients in the Government and private sectors with the procurement of information technology products and services, particularly under the Queensland Government Information Technology Contracting (GITC) framework.

Since 2014 Michael has been recognised in Best Lawyers™ Australia as one of Australia’s leading lawyers in the field of Government Practice, Information Technology Law, Telecommunications Law and Outsourcing Law. Michael has also been named as a Recommended lawyer in both Technology, Media and Telecommunications and Intellectual Property by Doyle’s Guide, most recently in 2017.

Experience

Michael’s recent experience includes:

  • Queensland Health: Drafting and advising on systems integration contracts and procurement processes for major hospital construction projects including Gold Coast University Hospital and the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital;
  • Queensland Government Agencies: Advising multiple agencies on privacy and compliance issues associated with adoption of cloud technology, including for the largest single-agency deployment of Microsoft cloud services;
  • Queensland Department of Transport & Main Roads: Advised on the New Queensland Driver Licence smartcard project; and
  • Information technology service providers: Drafting flexible service agreement templates for multiple private sector service providers.
