Michael Boughey

Michael specialises in intellectual property and information technology and has over 25 years’ experience spanning both private and public sectors.

Michael’s expertise includes assisting clients in the Government and private sectors with the procurement of information technology products and services, particularly under the Queensland Information Technology Contracting (QITC) framework.

Michael also advises international video game and interactive entertainment publishers, developers and platforms on legal and regulatory issues in the Australian market, including consumer law and other regulatory issues and intellectual property protection.

Since 2014, Michael has been recognised in Best Lawyers™ Australia as one of Australia’s leading lawyers in fields including Government Practice, Information Technology Law, Telecommunications Law, Outsourcing Law, and Privacy and Data Security Law. Experience

Michael’s experience includes advising:

  • Queensland Department of Transport & Main Roads on the digital drivers licence project;
  • Queensland Health on procurement, contracting and contract management issues in relation to major projects including Electronic Medical Records, Interoperability, Privileged Access Management, and Patient Administration System;
  • Powerlink on the procurement of the core technology platform for operation of its transmission network;
  • Queensland Government Agencies on privacy and compliance issues associated with adoption of cloud technology; and
  • Games and interactive entertainment industry clients on IP and regulatory issues in the Australian market.
