Melanie Weaver

Melanie is a Special Counsel in HWL Ebsworth’s Property team in Perth. Melanie has over 19 years’ experience, specialising in commercial property law including acquisitions and disposals, commercial settlements, commercial and retail leasing, property development, legal property due diligence, and advising on commercial property and liquor licensing issues in Western Australia.

Melanie has acted for a range of stakeholders in respect to their investments in liquor licensed premises in Western Australia including the acquisition, disposal and leasing of licensed premises, preparing and lodging liquor licensing applications, and advising on liquor licensing law, policies and procedures.

Melanie has been recognised by Doyle’s Guide as a Rising Star in WA Property and Real Estate Law in 2022.

Experience

Melanie’s recent experience includes advising:

  • Insurance Commission of Western Australia on the sale of its directly-held property portfolio (Forrest Centre, Westralia Square, Westralia Plaza, The Shops At Ellenbrook and Livingston Marketplace);
  • Far East Consortium on the sale of apartments in The Towers at Elizabeth Quay (which include over 300 residential apartments, a luxury hotel and complementary retail facilities);
  • Various clients on the acquisition of commercial, retail, industrial and pastoral lease properties in Western Australia including for Centuria (William Square in Northbridge and industrial sites), Primewest (a commercial office building) and Viva Energy Australia (petrol station sites);
  • Landlords on commercial and retail shop leasing including for Dexus (240 St Georges Terrace, Alluvion and Carillon City) and Perth Airport Pty Ltd (various commercial, industrial and retail sites at Perth Airport); and
  • A private developer in a successful application for the conditional grant of a Hotel Restricted Licence (liquor licence) for a hotel in West Perth.
