Matthew Craven

Matthew is a Partner in the Commercial Group at HWL Ebsworth. Matthew has wide-ranging experience in technology law, privacy law and intellectual property. He is recognised for his pragmatic and commercial approach when advising on complex problems and transactions.

Matthew specialises in managing large scale technology, privacy and data governance projects, and is particularly sought after for his experience in advising on cyber security and data breach response matters. He also advises companies, government, research organisations and start-ups in relation to the development, protection and licensing of intellectual property.

  • An Australian bank in relation to its digital transformation project, including the procurement of its core banking platform and cloud hosting arrangements;
  • Various clients on R&D, licensing and commercialisation deals, including global IP restructuring arrangements;
  • A large corporate on the design and implementation of a secure digital identity verification and management platform that allows customers to identify and manage their digital identity and personal information;
  • Various government departments and agencies on technology procurement, privacy, surveillance and data sharing projects;
  • A publicly listed company in relation to the outsourcing of its enterprise systems and application support arrangements off-shore;
  • An Australian bank on the procurement of a software as a service offering to streamline and automate processes related to supply chain management; and
  • Various multinational and Australian companies on privacy complaints, data breach responses and regulator investigations.
