Lewis Cohen

Lewis specialises in the defence of personal injury claims, including public liability, product liability, claims brought by injured workers and drivers, and claims made by the Victorian Workcover Authority and Transport Accident Commission. He also specialises in property damage claims.

Lewis assists a number of insurers in the general insurance industry, as well as self-insured businesses and individuals. His experience spans the Supreme, County and Magistrates’ Court of Victoria, as well as the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Additionally, Lewis advises insurers and corporate clients on risk management-related issues and issues of policy interpretation.

Experience

Lewis’ experience includes advising:

  • The owner/operator of a dance hall in respect of a claim for damages by an attendee to a dance night;
  • One of Australia’s largest food retailers in the defence of public liability claims, worker’s damages claims and statutory recovery claims against it;
  • Hoteliers, publicans and bar operators in the defence of personal injury claims, including assaults, on their premises;
  • A firearms supplier in relation to a personal injury claim arising out of an allegedly defective firearm; and
  • An air conditioning manufacturer in relation to a house fire alleged to have been started by the manufacturer’s product.
