Courtney is a Special Counsel in the Litigation team in Sydney. Courtney has experience across all aspects of commercial litigation, spanning property and commercial disputes, with an emphasis on complex leasing and contractual disputes; assisting a range of clients across the property, resources, aged care, transport, agribusiness, retail and health sectors.

Courtney commonly advises landlords, tenants, developers, property managers and retirement village operators in disputes across multiple Australian jurisdictions, having appeared in a significant number of Australian courts and tribunals. Courtney is focussed on providing solution-led legal advice and appears regularly in court and at mediations representing her clients to achieve commercial outcomes, whilst maintaining a careful consideration of her clients’ specific objectives.

  • National Essential Services Provider Acting for a national provider of essential services, in relation to a dispute brought by the registration proprietor of a property in Sydney, historical licenses and statutory rights.
  • Publicly Listed Company Advising various agricultural leasing disputes, including rent disputes and disputes relating to force majeure events.
  • Publicly Listed Company Advising in a dispute with its landlord, including achieving a favourable settlement for a client at mediation, involving breach of quiet enjoyment, make good and bank guarantee issues.
  • Retirement Village Operator Defending various applications brought by residents, including liaising with executive stakeholders in order to successfully settle the matters before hearing.
  • Purchaser in Contract for Sale Acting for a purchaser in proceedings in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, in relation to the vendor’s failure to complete the contract for sale and advising on related proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia.
