Byron is a Special Counsel who advises on financial services regulation, consumer credit regulation, payments, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) and privacy.
He specialises in payments having worked in house at a payments company that provides merchant acquiring, digital payment and gifting services. He has also spent time seconded to a major bank and an international rideshare company.
Byron has extensive experience working with banks and other financial institutions. He has advised on the implementation of new products (including deposit, credit and “buy now pay later” products) and the implementation of new regulatory regimes (including the design and distribution obligations (DDO) regime, mandatory breach reporting regime and ant-hawking regime).

- Buy-Now Pay Later Advising Australia’s largest BNPL provider on its transition to the NCCP regime.
- Card Issuers and Acquirers Assisting across all aspects of card scheme issuance, sponsorship, settlement and acquiring arrangements.
- Fintechs Advising on AFSL and ACL applications and liaising with ASIC in respect of those applications.
- Merchants and Payment Service Providers Advising on contract negotiations for the provision of payments services (including merchant payments contracts, payment facilitator contracts and ISO contracts) and banking services.
