Session 1 - Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS): overview and current status of implementation of BEPS measures in Australia

The webinar will provide an overview of what the BEPS project is seeking to achieve and provide an overview of how the 15 Action points strive to tackle avoidance, improve coherence of international tax rules and ensure a more transparent tax environment. Following this initial introduction, we will do a deep dive into key parts of the project in subsequent webinars as appropriate.

Session 2 - Taxing the Digital Economy: Pillars One and Two

The webinar will provide an overview of why the digital economy presents unique challenges from a tax perspective and how the international regulatory community is seeking to tax multinationals who have scale but no physical mass.

Session 3 - International Tax Disputes

This webinar explores some of the specific issues that arise and are unique to international tax and transfer pricing disputes. We will touch on areas such as double taxation agreements (DTAs), the Mutual Agreement Procedure (MAP) and arbitration clauses.

Session 4 - Interpretation of Double Taxation Agreements (DTAs)

Following on from our discussion on international tax disputes, we will provide an overview of the principles to be applied in interpreting DTA's. In addition, we will provide some key examples to demonstrate that whilst the principles are well established they can, at times, be more difficult to apply in practice.

Session 5 - Evidentiary issues and processes in international tax and transfer pricing matters

Following on from our earlier discussions, we will examine evidentiary considerations in transfer pricing matters, including a discussion on areas of challenge when instructing experts and specific procedures used by the Court (i.e. concurrent expert evidence).
