Leading independent Australian law firm HWL Ebsworth Lawyers has announced that Charmian Barton has joined the firm as a partner within its Planning & Environment team in Perth.
Charmian joins HWL Ebsworth from Norton Rose Fulbright where she was a partner.
With 20 years’ experience in all areas of environmental and planning law, Charmian’s appointment is a significant step in the national expansion of the firm’s offering in this area.
Charmian helps clients navigate project approval processes and regularly appears in planning appeals before the WA State Administrative Tribunal. She also advises clients on the management of contaminated land, brownfields redevelopment, compulsory land acquisition and compensation, biobanking and carbon risk.
Her clients include federal, state and local authorities, proponents of major infrastructure and renewable energy projects, resources and energy companies, developers, healthcare providers, manufacturers, retailers, emissions-intensive industries and environmental consultants.
Charmian is currently ranked as a leading lawyer – Environment by Chambers Asia-Pacific and has been selected for inclusion by her peers in Best Lawyers in Australia© for the practice areas of Government, and Land Use and Zoning.
