HWL Ebsworth has advised the vendors of Australian-based yoghurt maker, Jalna Dairy Foods, on its recent sale to French headquartered Lactalis Group, the world’s largest dairy business.
Lactalis bought the popular Jalna yoghurt brand, a yoghurt production facility in Melbourne and an organic milk farm in northern Victoria.
Jalna is a fully integrated, paddock-to-pot, dairy business that produces pot set yoghurts, manufactures the majority of its unique containers, and operates a biodynamic farm, with a strong focus on Greek, organic and all natural yoghurts.
The HWL Ebsworth deal team was led by Jeremy McCarthy (Partner – Corporate) and Paul Lewis (Special Counsel – Corporate) with assistance from James Lofting (Partner – Planning & Environment), Richard Westmoreland (Partner – Competition/Merger Clearance), Chris Egan (Partner – Employment), Matt Craven (Partner – IP/IT) and Maliq Maideen (Special Counsel – Property).
The deal is one of many HWL Ebsworth has advised on in the dairy sector, having previously advised the founders of Barambah Organics in a transaction that saw asset management firm Tanarra Capital make a significant investment into the dairy business, which churns out organic milk, yoghurt, cream and cheese products both locally and globally.
