Meredith Gibbs, environment specialist, awarded Fellow appointment by the Global CCS Institute

Market Insights

Meredith Gibbs, partner in HWL Ebsworth’s Planning, Environment and Government team, has been awarded an inaugural Fellowship with the Global CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) Institute.

During her Fellowship, Meredith will be undertaking research to identify the key features of an effective enforcement regime for the underground storage of carbon dioxide. Meredith’s findings will be presented in a publicly-available research report, which will summarize the case studies, their conclusions and any accompanying recommendations.

Last month Meredith attended the Institute’s Asia-Pacific member’s meeting in Tokyo to present the initial findings.

I am delighted and honoured to have been awarded the first Legal Fellowship with the Global CCS Institute. My research will identify the key features of an effective enforcement regime for the underground storage of carbon dioxide. This issue is important because the perception of an effective enforcement regime that ensures the permanent and safe storage of carbon dioxide will be crucial in increasing public and industry confidence in CCS as an important technology for a low-carbon future,” said Meredith.

We will keep you updated with the findings of Meredith’s research. In the meantime, if your organisation requires environmental law advice, Meredith and her team would be pleased to assist.
