HWLE assists in shaping South Australia’s long term gas security arrangements

Uncategorized

HWLE’s Adelaide office has advised the State of South Australia in entering into its deal with Santos to secure a long-term domestic gas supply agreement. The South Australian Strategic Gas Reserve provides for the supply of 200 petajoules (PJ) of natural gas over 10 years, commencing 1 March 2030 to be used in South Australia including support for the Whyalla steelworks.

The outcome demonstrates HWLE’s depth in executing high‑stakes government–industry negotiations and delivering solutions that integrate commercial, regulatory and policy dimensions – positioning South Australia for a more secure and strategically aligned energy future.

The legal aspects of the deal were led by David Lee (Partner) and Nick Karagiannis (Partner) supported by Jamie Restas (Chair of Partners) and Chelsea Vigants (Solicitor).
