James is Special Counsel in HWL Ebsworth’s transport practice group.
James specialises in advising airlines and insurers in relation to aviation and marine accident claims arising from personal injury and property damage. James advises maritime operators with regard to workers’ compensation claims by seafarers under the Seafarers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1992 (Cth). James also has experience in conducting recovery proceedings for commercial insurers in respect of multi-million dollar losses.
James is a member of the Aviation Law Association of Australia and New Zealand (ALAANZ) and a committee member of ALAANZ’s Queensland branch.
Experience
James’ experience includes advising:
- An international airline in relation to court proceedings brought by a passenger who suffered personal injuries after a hot beverage was allegedly spilled upon her;
- Various national airlines in relation to liability claims made by labour hire workers engaged to assist the airline in its ground operations;
- A national airline regarding a claim for damage to airport property caused by the airline’s aircraft;
- A marine insurer on multiple liability claims arising from a collision between vessels which resulted in a fatality;
- Various maritime; and
- A commercial insurer in relation to policy coverage issues arising from the loss of a racing yacht.
