Paul Callaghan
Paul is a Special Counsel at HWL Ebsworth with extensive and significant experience. His expertise includes Australian revenue, superannuation, funds management, financial services and wealth management.
During Paul’s career, he has been involved in a wide range of trust matters and corporate and commercial transactions (including acquisitions and custody, administration, licensing and similar documents).
Paul has extensive practical and technical experience in all facets of Australian wealth management and financial services law. During his practice, he has advised Responsible Entities, trustees and insurers (and relevant boards), as well as service providers, (such as administrators and custodians), and assisted in providing solutions to technical, regulatory and governance issues.
Experience
Paul’s experience includes advising:
- Commonwealth Bank Group Super in relation to various superannuation and commercial matters generally and acting for the Trustee in conjunction with external lawyers and advisers in relation to a successor fund transfer of Group Super to Australian Retirement Trust;
- the operator of major platform products and other structures in relation to its resignation of office and appointment as trustee of major retail superannuation funds in consequence of legislative changes concerning dual regulated entities;
- that operator on intellectual property and contractual matters and acting as the main legal contact and lead for the incoming trustee as a result of its resignation as operator and appointment as trustee; and
- an industry member-based organisation on the overall governance requirements for the Board of the organisation and various Board Committees and assisting the organisation with submissions to the Government and regulators.
