Nadia D’Souza

Nadia assists clients with all aspects of corporate and commercial law including property, construction, government procurement, regulatory matters and corporate structuring. Nadia has extensive experience working as in-house counsel (both public and private sectors) making her keenly aware of the challenges faced by clients in achieving their strategic priorities.

Nadia holds tertiary accounting qualifications and, prior to joining HWL Ebsworth, was employed with the NT Department of Treasury and Finance for several years.

Nadia is engaged with the regulation of the legal profession and development of relevant law and policy with her current roles as elected councillor of the NT Law Society Council and chairperson of the NT Commercial Law Committee.

Experience

Nadia’s experience includes advising:

  • Commonwealth of Australia as represented by the Australian Taxation Office and the Director of National Parks in respect of multi million dollar procurement projects;
  • Power and Water Corporation (including while seconded as in-house counsel) in respect of:
    • major infrastructure and network projects such as the Jabiru Power Project, the Adelaide River Off-Stream Water Storage development and the Alice Springs Future Energy Grid Project; and
    • major procurement projects including the design and construction of water treatment plants and the maintenance of power generating equipment in remote communities;
  • Airport Development Group and its subsidiaries in relation to all facets of its business while seconded as in-house counsel. Advising on various matters including environment management, intellectual property rights, major construction projects, dispute resolution and other matters affecting an international airport;
  • Northern Territory of Australia as represented by various departments including:
    • Department of Treasury and Finance to advise on a stamp duty dispute held before the Taxation and Royalty Appeals Tribunal;
    • Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities to develop contractual terms and policies for its subsidised home loan scheme; and
    • Department of Attorney-General and Justice to comprehensively review and propose amendments to the Racing and Betting Act (NT);
  • Local governments throughout the Territory in respect of property transactions and requirements under the Local Government Act (NT); and
  • Private clients on the sale/acquisition of Willeroo Station, Florina Station, Two Rivers Station, Singleton Station and more.
