Jennifer Barrett
Jennifer is a partner in our Melbourne Property Team.
Jennifer has been advising clients in the aged care and property sector for over 13 years, and has extensive experience in advising both for-profit and not-for-profit clients on aged care legislation including the Aged Care Act 1997 (Cth), the Supported Residential Services (Private Proprietors) Act 2010 (Vic) and the Retirement Villages Act 1986 (Vic). Jennifer advises on aged care law in relation to sales and acquisitions, leases, compliance including challenging sanctions, governance, commercial arrangements including service agreements, funding agreements and grants. Jennifer also has experience advising social and affordable housing projects including Homes Victoria – Big Housing Build, grants and funding programs.
Jennifer has been recognised by her peers in Doyle’s Guide in the area of Health and Aged Care and is regularly requested to present in her area of expertise.
Experience
Jennifer’s experience includes advising:
- L & D Management Services on the sale of allocated places;
- KND & Associates in relation to the sale of St Michael’s Aged Care Facility and subsequent sale of allocated places to Merakis Enterprises;
- Baptcare Ltd on the acquisition of 3 residential aged care facilities from Alliance Care Services Group;
- Iris Aged Care in relation to the removal of a dangerous resident from the facility, and subsequent VCAT proceedings;
- Jasusan Pty Ltd in relation to challenging the imposition of sanctions at Brunswick Lodge Supported Residential Services;
- Mali Nominees Pty Ltd in response to notices issued under the Aged Care Act 1997;
- Ruscare Ltd in relation to the sale of allocated places;
- Luson Health in relation to governance and compliance matters; and
- Baptcare Affordable Housing Ltd in relation to Victoria’s Big Housing Build.
