Pierre Chao

Pierre Chao has expertise in all areas in Australian Federal taxation law, including Income Tax, CGT, GST, and International tax.
He worked for the ATO for 10 years and specialises in running review, objections and litigation with the ATO and regularly advises on real property development projects, corporate transactions, structuring matters, complex estate matters and commercial disputes.
Pierre is fluent in Mandarin and has extensive experience in assisting a variety of clients in the international trade industries especially from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, including foreign currency exchange, international finance and family office structures.

Experience

Pierre’s experience includes advising:

  • One of the largest developers in China with multi-jurisdictional structuring of assets, including technical taxation and stamp duty advice;
  • Multiple Foreign Currency Exchange business with commercial dispute, business structuring and taxation litigation with the ATO;
  • Corporate companies on their restructuring requirements including the application of CGT rollovers, small business CGT concessions and tax consolidation measures;
  • Numerous property developers on taxation structuring and disputes with the ATO;
  • Various Individual and Small Business Clients in dispute with the ATO in respect of a variety of taxation issues including but not limited to capital/revenue, transfer pricing, foreign source income, loan arrangements; and
  • Foreign entities on their taxation requirements, including the operation of international tax treaties, withholding tax rules and CGT concessions.
