Laurence Terret

Laurence is a senior construction and infrastructure lawyer with a particular focus on large-scale, complex disputes. Laurence has successfully represented and advised clients on disputes across various sectors including road and rail, processing facilities, marine infrastructure, oil & gas, mining, and renewables.

Laurence’s experience includes international arbitrations, litigation and adjudications under Security of Payment legislation.

Laurence also provides strategic advice to a range of construction industry participants on project delivery and dispute avoidance strategies.

Experience

Laurence’s experience includes advising:

  • a Tier 1 Construction Contractor in the NSW Supreme Court relating to the construction of a major NSW Highway upgrade project;
  • a project company in an international arbitration relating to the construction of a refinery and petrochemical complex in Southeast Asia, involving claims under and in relation to the EPC Contract valued in excess of USD 1.5 billion;
  • a South Korean contractor in an international arbitration in relation to the construction of an iron ore mine and the associated rail and port infrastructure on a $10 billion project in Western Australia;
  • a resource company in relation to disputes and potential disputes arising out of the construction of a rail line in North Queensland;
  • a principal in a dispute in negligence and breach of contract with 16 counterparties, in relation to the defective construction of a coal handling facility; and
  • a joint venture in a $388 million dispute in the Supreme Court of Queensland relating to the construction of a coal export terminal.
