Katherine Shann
Katherine has over 10 years experience acting for, and working with, major Australian and international financial institutions and their clients.
Katherine commenced her career in private practice in the Financial Services team at Blake Dawson Waldron, during which time she undertook secondments to Bank of Queensland and Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ). Katherine had the privilege of establishing ANZ’s Loan Structuring & Execution (LSE) team in Queensland in 2006, and later headed the equivalent team in Melbourne, providing her the opportunity to work with the bank’s Institutional and Corporate Banking customers across all industry segments with the primary responsibility for structuring, negotiating, documenting and executing their debt transactions.
Katherine has extensive experience in the preparation and negotiation of bilateral facilities as well as complex club and syndicated financing arrangements on both secured and unsecured bases.
Katherine has been named in Best Lawyers AustraliaTM in 2014 – 2019 as one of Australia’s best lawyers in the Banking and Finance Law category.
Experience
Katherine’s experience includes advising:
- Super Retail Group Limited on, and documenting, the refinance of its $600m syndicated debt facilities;
- Listed resources company and its related corporate entities in relation to their project finance, acquisition finance and working capital requirements;
- The retirement village division of a Queensland based listed entity by arranging, structuring and coordinating the documentation and negotiation of a secured club facility;
- Listed property trust by arranging, structuring and coordinating documentation and negotiation of a syndicated debt facility to finance the construction of a commercial tower;
- Property development company in relation to structuring and negotiating the secured, bilateral facilities for a for a large, Queensland based diversified property development company, including negotiating inter-creditor arrangements for multiple other syndicated debt facilities and other financial accommodation;
- Large private grain accumulator and trader on structuring and negotiating a senior, secured syndicated facility; and
- Listed natural resources company on structuring, negotiating and documenting senior, secured working capital facilities.
