Abi Uthayachandran

Abi is a Partner in the Banking and Financial Services group in Sydney.

He acts for corporate and institutional lenders and borrowers on bespoke debt and quasi debt transactions (including syndicated, club and bilateral facilities). His depth of knowledge and strategic approach has helped clients navigate a variety of particularly complex corporate finance, real estate, and project development transactions. Abi has a particular interest in ESG and sustainable products.

Abi’s clients include major banks, non-bank lenders and fund managers. He enjoys forming deep relationships with his clients and spending time getting to know their goals and risk tolerances to provide tailored and pragmatic solutions to issues that inevitably arise in debt transactions.

Experience

Abi’s experience includes advising:

  • Two major Australian banks providing core debt and working capital facilities totalling more than AUD300 million on a club basis to a primary producer;
  • Major Australian bank in its asset sale of its retail, commercial and small business banking operations in a foreign jurisdiction;
  • Major Australian bank on the acquisition facility provided to fund the acquisition of Bulletproof (ASX:BPF) by AC3 by way of a scheme of arrangement;
  • InterOil Corporation on its USD250 million working capital facility provided by a syndicate of lenders which was later upsized to USD400 million;
  • InterOil Corporation on its USD520 million sale of its refinery and distribution in PNG business to Puma Energy;
  • Major Australia bank on approx. AUD100 million investment and development facilities to a family office in connection with a portfolio of assets including student housing and social and affordable housing properties;
  • Major non-bank lender in connection with a number of land bank and development facilities; and
  • Fund manager in connection with a number of investment and development facilities including its inaugral green loan facility.
