The release of Refinitiv’s (previously Thomson Reuters) league tables has placed HWL Ebsworth in the top spot having advised on the highest number of ECM deals in Australia. Results in Refinitiv’s Global Capital Markets Review show HWL Ebsworth advised on the highest volume of announced Equity & Equity-related deals in the Australian market in 2019, valued at $US 845.8 million.
It is an impressive feat, having moved up from the position of 10th in 2018 and confirms HWL Ebsworth’s increased share of the market. The firm’s steady growth and increasing activity in the capital markets space was bolstered with the merger of Perth corporate law firm, Bellanhouse, last year.
This result follows a year of strong ECM performance with an increase in underwritten capital raisings and IPOs. HWL Ebsworth’s corporate team advised on 6 IPOs in 2019 representing 10% of the Australian market, which included Whispir Ltd’s $47 million IPO. High profile capital raisings included Centuria Metropolitan REIT, Ingenia Communities Group, New Century Resources Ltd and Centuria Capital Goup.
In addition, Refinitiv reported that HWL Ebsworth advised on the 2nd highest number of announced small cap M&A deals and 6th highest number of announced mid-market M&A deals in 2019.
