Peter Holt

Peter specialises in planning and environment law and is recognised by the Law Society of New South Wales as an Accredited Specialist in this area.

Peter assists State government agencies, local councils and private developers in obtaining planning approvals for their projects, with a particular focus on development contributions, compulsory acquisition, building and subdivision certification, heritage conservation, Crown land and Aboriginal land claims and Water Law.

Peter has over eighteen years’ experience working on policy development and the implementation of innovative legislative reform initiatives. This includes being responsible for the policy and legal framework behind the New South Wales Government’s ePlanning program; overseeing the expansion of the BASIX certification scheme; and the preparation of parts of the Planning Bill 2013.

Experience

Peter’s experience includes advising:

  • The NSW Crown Land Commissioner as part of the independent review into the implementation of the Crown Land Management Act 2016;
  • The Northern Territory Government in relation to a wide-ranging review of the Northern Territory Planning System;
  • Port Stephens Council on the development of the Kings Hill Urban Release Area;
  • The Department of Education as an intervenor in Class 1 proceedings challenging the granting of an application to subdivide land adjoining an existing school;
  • The NSW Irrigators’ Council and the Peak Irrigator Groups in the Northern Basin of the Murray-Darling on the implementation of the NSW Government’s Floodplain Harvesting Policy; and
  • Various rural landholders on the acquisition of parts of their property for the Inland Rail Project.
