Taylor Austin

Taylor is a Special Counsel who specialises in government, public liability and personal injury litigation including claims involving allegations of sexual abuse.

Taylor has extensive experience in historical sexual abuse litigation acting for government agencies and departments, private charitable and religious organisations, insurers, and schools. He also specialises in public liability claims with a focus on government agencies but also for private insures.

Throughout his career, Taylor has acted in a range of personal injury matters typically for insurers. Taylor has a strong appreciation of Model Litigant Guidelines which are relevant to government clients. Taylor typically practices in Victorian superior courts and has an ongoing practice in New South Wales. Taylor also has experience in insurance disputes with respect to coverage and policy indemnity.

Experience

Taylor’s recent experience includes advising:

  • the State of Victoria in defence of claims and litigation in respect of allegations involving historical child sexual abuse for several government agencies. Taylor often represents the State in clusters of related claims with respect to institutional abuse;
  • Charitable clients in defence of a cluster of claims and providing overall advice with respect to claims management; and
  • Private insurers in defence of personal injury litigation including public liability claims and in major coverage disputes concerning policy indemnity.
