Siew Ling Lian

Siew Ling predominantly acts for banks, financial institutions and private lenders. She also counts amongst her many international, overseas and Australian clients, a property development company that is listed on the Australian stock exchange (the ASX) and three  other property development companies that are listed on the Malaysian stock exchange (the Bursa Malaysia).

Siew Ling previously practised overseas for 13 years and was a partner in a prominent  firm there for nine years before returning to Melbourne.  Her varied experience has given her a very good grasp of the banking and finance and the property development legal landscapes. Siew Ling has an intimate knowledge of what is required in loan and security documentation for construction, commercial and investment financing. She has acted in relation to major finance projects within the CBD and greater metropolitan area. Siew Ling has drafted loan documents for both public listed companies and private lenders. Siew Ling’s property clients are currently undertaking major development projects in Sydney, in the Melbourne CBD and in Melbourne suburbs. Siew Ling’s clients rely on her sound knowledge and efficient work practices as she is able to consistently deliver very favourable outcomes within tight time-lines.


Siew Ling’s recent experience includes:

  • Major Project Refinancing: Acting for the first mortgagee in relation to a $72m refinancing of a major project on St Kilda Road where security documentation included a Priority Deed between four mortgagees, Variation of Priority of Mortgages and also due diligence on more than 200 Contracts of Sale;
  • Major Bank: Advising in a large transaction which entailed multistate stamp duty issues as securities were taken over assets across three states;
  • Major Bank: Acting for a major bank in the agribusiness sector in relation to a multi-million dollar transaction where facilities were cross collateralised;
  • Foreign Bank: Advising a in relation to financing of large-scale land subdivisions;
  • National Company: Acting in relation to its multi-million dollar invoice financing documentation; and
  • Development projects: Siew Ling’s property clients’ current development projects are a 700- plus units project in Sydney, an 800-plus units project in the Melbourne CBD and a 150-plus units project in Melbourne suburbs.
