Meghan Carruthers

Meghan specialises in health law. Her experience includes acting for health professionals and organisations in the defence of claims for professional negligence, in disciplinary proceedings and in coronial inquests. She also advises health professionals, health care organisations and professional bodies in relation to a range of legal issues including risk management, regulatory compliance, policy development, governance, clinical research and ethics, and privacy.

From 2001 to 2017 Meghan was the firm’s National Pro Bono Coordinator, administering and participating in the firm’s pro bono legal program. She continues to participate in the firm’s pro bono program.


Meghan’s recent experience includes:

  • Health care providers and professional bodies: Advising on clinical risk management, regulatory compliance and policy development;
  • Professional disciplinary matters health care professionals: Acting for a range of health care professionals in disciplinary matters before the Health Care Complaints Commission, professional bodies and in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal;
  • Professional registration board: Assisting a professional registration board with the investigation and determination of professional conduct complaints, including acting in administrative appeals and disciplinary proceedings before the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal;
  • District and Supreme courts of NSW, Federal and High courts: Acting in a variety of proceedings, primarily in medical negligence claims, brought in the District and Supreme Courts of NSW, and Federal and High Courts of Australia; and
  • Therapeutic goods regulation: Advising on the regulation and use of the therapeutic goods for human and animal use.
