David Lee

David has extensive experience advising both local and international clients on corporate and commercial matters. He has worked in Australia and South Korea, both in private practice and as an in-house counsel.

He has particular expertise in the energy and resources sector, including advising on farm-in/farm-out agreements, analysis of petroleum legislation, and land access agreements. David has also advised on major international infrastructure projects, covering both front-end and back-end matters. His experience includes reviewing EPC contracts, managing warranty claims, negotiating shipbuilding contracts, and handling international construction arbitrations.

Since 2023, David has served as a board member of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Korea, actively contributing to the Chamber’s initiatives and engagement with the business community.

Experience

David’s experience includes advising:

  • a Korean company on its acquisition of a US fibre optics business;
  • a large international sports brand in establishing a joint venture in Korea;
  • an Australian oil & gas producer in respect of a farmout of certain African assets;
  • various renewable energy developers in regard to their projects in Korea including with their permitting issues and their operational contracts (eg FEED and supply contracts);
  • a Korean conglomerate in respect of various offshore EPC contracts for FPSO hulls and oil platforms;
  • a Korean contractor in respect of warranty claims made against it concerning the fabrication of an Australian LNG processing plant; and
  • Korean companies in respect of construction disputes including a multi-billion dollar claim against a Korean conglomerate for a gas production project in the Middle East.
