Craig Down

Craig specialises in the defence of personal injury claims, property damage claims, product liability claims and claims brought by workers, drivers and by statutory insurers such as the Victorian Workcover Authority and the Transport Accident Commission. He takes a diligent and forensic approach to his insurance law practice which keeps the needs of his clients firmly in sight at all times.

Craig and his team assist a large number of insurers and self-insured entities in the general insurance industry.

Craig has been named in Best Lawyers™ Australia for Insurance Law and Personal Injury Litigation. He has also been recognised in Doyle’s Guide as a “Leading” and “Recommended” lawyer in the areas of and public and product liability.

Craig regularly conducts litigation in the Supreme, County and Magistrates’ Courts of Victoria as well as the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Craig’s principal objective is to resolve claims as swiftly and cost-effectively as possible. He is quick to try and get to the “heart” of each case and provides his clients with prompt, clear, commercial advice. Approximately 95% of the cases in which Craig is instructed resolve prior to the commencement of trial. However, in circumstances in which particular cases have required litigating to finality, Craig’s clients have enjoyed great success in the Victorian courts.

  • A corporate landowner in respect of a series of claims against it arising from property damages to adjoining land caused by a fuel reduction burn-off; and
  • A large dairy product manufacturer, following a voluntary product recall, in respect of a multi-million dollar claim against the supplier of a defective component to the manufacturer.
