HWL Ebsworth Lawyers announces largest ever round of internal promotions

Leading independent Australian law firm HWL Ebsworth Lawyers has announced the internal promotion of six partners and nine special counsel.

The new partners work across various areas of the firm, including Insurance, Litigation, Commercial and Real Estate & Projects.

Tim Ainsworth of the Sydney Insurance Group advises on a broad range of workers compensation, employers liability and employment related issues. Tim’s clients include Insurance & Care NSW and its Scheme Agents, self-insurers and employers, and the Self-Insurance Corporation and its Treasury Managed Fund Agencies and Agents.

Colin Almond of the Melbourne Litigation Group offers clients high-level technical expertise in commercial risk management and litigation, mortgage recovery and security enforcement, the enforcement of consumer and commercial credit contracts and insolvency.

Karen Fairbairn of the Sydney Litigation Group is an expert adviser on all aspects of the Personal Property Securities Act (PPSA). Karen has over 20 years’ experience in banking law and regulation and over 10 years’ experience in investment and commercial banking.

Johnny Ho of the Melbourne Commercial Group practices in virtually all areas of Australian taxation law, including CGT, GST, PAYG, FBT, Super Guarantee and State taxes, and regularly advises on the structuring of business entities and commercial transactions. Johnny also has expertise in assisting with taxation audits and managing taxation disputes.

Alex Koidl of the Melbourne Real Estate & Projects Group assists listed corporations, property developers, real estate funds and financial institutions in relation to acquisitions and disposals, property development and commercial leasing.

Daniel Zabow of the Sydney Litigation Group specialises in complex dispute resolution, insolvency and corporate restructuring. Daniel has extensive experience advising trading banks, mezzanine lenders, distressed debt funds, insolvency practitioners and corporates on all forms of insolvency administration, workouts and substantial insolvency related litigation.

The firm has also promoted Andrew Allan (Insurance and Australian Government – Canberra office), Melissa Hanbidge (Litigation – Brisbane office), Colin Harris (Building & Construction – Brisbane office), Joy Horwood (Litigation – Perth office), Shanna Kruger (Real Estate & Projects – Sydney office), Kaveetha Kumar (Insurance – Sydney office), James Lofting (Planning, Environment & Government – Melbourne office), Mark Riddington (Building & Construction – Sydney office) and Daniele Solomon(Litigation – Melbourne office) to the position of special counsel.

This represents the largest ever single round of internal partner promotions for the firm, and also the largest number of special counsel, senior associate (six) and associate (fourteen) promotions than in any previous year.
