The Opportunity

We have a unique opportunity for a talented and dynamic candidate looking for advancement opportunities to join our impressive and highly regarded Norwest Corporate & Commercial practice group led by Matthew Rowe, Brendon Noney and Sean O’Donnell. You will advise government, publicly listed companies, multinationals, SMEs, large family businesses and charities and not-for-profit organisations, providing you with a remarkable breadth of Corporate & Commercial experience and exposure. You will work in a close-knit team on exciting and broad-ranging front end commercial and franchising transactions for some of Australia’s best-known brands and businesses. Experience in franchising would be advantageous but not essential.

Unique Location

HWL Ebsworth is the only national firm with a long-standing (15+ years) presence in Greater Western Sydney. The Norwest office is fully integrated with the offices in all the other States and Territories. Located in the world-class Norwest Business Park, the office is easily accessible by public transport, has parking options for those who drive and is in the heart of a plethora of great restaurants, bars, gyms and green spaces.

Your role

You will work on:

  • Transactions in a broad range of commercial settings and relationships.
  • Front end matters such as the sale of businesses and share sale and purchase agreements.
  • Arrangements that support our client’s commerce and trade, such as confidentiality and non-disclosure, supply and distribution, licensing, joint ventures, procurement, and terms and conditions of trade.
  • Container Deposit Schemes around the country in the circular economy that helps the enhancement of the environment.
  • Privacy matters.
  • Information technology contracts including advising on cyber and data security.
  • Restrictive trade practices matters.
  • Franchise specific matters – such as drafting disclosure documents and franchise agreements, issuing franchise agreements and related documentation, acting for franchisors and other parties in sales of franchises, regulatory investigations and franchising disputes.
  • Essential pro-bono work for charitable and non-for-profit organisations.

What you need:

  • Enjoy interacting directly with clients demonstrating your strong communication skills.
  • Have strong drafting skills with steadfast attention to detail.
  • Get a kick out of mentoring and working with junior lawyers when delegating.
