HWL Ebsworth Lawyers (HWL Ebsworth) and the Local Government Association of South Australia (LGASA) have today announced that HWL Ebsworth has elected to withdraw from the LGASA’s Legal Connect service.
The LGASA Legal Connect service was launched in August 2018 with the selection of HWL Ebsworth as its inaugural partner to deliver tailored legal advice direct to the local government sector. Since that time, local councils across South Australia have had the opportunity to access HWL Ebsworth’s specialist technical expertise in a range of areas of relevance to their day to day operations, whilst enjoying the service’s unprecedented value proposition.
During that time, HWL Ebsworth also advised the LGASA in relation to its dispute with SA Power Networks concerning the charging of public lighting customers, including SA councils, ratepayers and the State Government. That successful action resulted in the repayment of $13 million to the councils and the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure.
The LGASA has undertaken a competitive tender process to select a new preferred partner, and details in relation to that appointment will be made available by LGASA. HWL Ebsworth will continue to service South Australia’s local councils outside of the Legal Connect service.
