Veronica Mignone

Veronica Mignone is an experienced litigator in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team.

Veronica advises on defamation claims by individuals and also acts for a number of major media organisations (television and newspapers) in relation to the full range of media issues including defending high profile and large scale defamation proceedings.

Veronica has experience in advising clients in relation to regulatory issues, including responding to investigations and prosecutions by a number of regulatory bodies including ASIC, the ACCC, SafeWork SA and SA Police, as well as responding to ACCC inquiries.

She has assisted corporations in the management of critical incidents from the early investigative process through to the prosecution phase and advised on all matters triggered by an incident including compliance with statutory reporting obligations, enforcement of rights during an investigation, protection of privilege in communications and confidentiality agreements.

Veronica’s wide-ranging experience also includes advising corporations on alleged breaches of the Australian Consumer Law, environmental matters, corporate governance, contractual disputes, freedom of information requests, corporations law matters and arbitration.

Veronica also has a keen interest in space law and Australia’s fast growing commercial space industry.

Experience

Veronica’s experience includes advising:

  • Various clients on dealing directly with government regulatory bodies in relation to responding to inquiries, investigations and charges laid against individuals and companies for alleged breaches of statutory duties, including negotiating the amendment and withdrawal of charges;
  • Companies, directors, officers and employees in relation to their rights and obligations relating to requests for information/interview by government regulatory bodies for alleged breaches of various legislation;
  • Santos Ltd as operator of a major gas plant following an explosion and fire;
  • News Corp in relation to defamation proceedings arising from newspaper and online articles;
  • Seven Network in relation to various defamation claims arising from broadcasts throughout Australia (successfully);
  • Individual plaintiffs in defamation claims arising from electronic and online publications (including social media);
  • Various clients in relation to FOI and information disclosure processes; and
  • Various corporates on preparing statutory compliance manuals, reporting guidelines and privilege protocols to trigger and maintain legal professional privilege in subsequent internal and external communications in respect of managing critical incidents.
