Niamh Breheny

Niamh is a specialist banking and finance lawyer. She regularly acts for and advises banks, other financial services providers and corporate borrowers in a wide range of banking, finance and commercial matters. Niamh facilitates and advises on commercial lending transactions including in the property finance, corporate and institutional finance space, and across industries that include property development, short stay apartments, transport, aged care, pharmacies and resources.

During her career, Niamh has also worked as an in-house legal counsel for an Australian bank, as a commercial litigator and as a legal advisor for the Australian Securities & Investments Commission.

She is regarded by her clients as a trusted adviser with a pragmatic and solutions-driven approach to dealing with legal issues arising in banking and finance transactions.

Niamh’s recent experience includes:

  • Australian bank (institutional lending): Acted for a bank funding the acquisition of a premium office tower;
  • Australian banks (property finance): Acted for banks funding the construction of a number of serviced apartment and residential apartment buildings;
  • Australian bank (aged care): Acted for a bank with respect to the development and construction of an aged care facility;
  • Large not-for-profit (aged care): Acted for a borrower with respect to funding of the acquisition of an aged care facility;
  • Australian banks (corporate finance): Acted for banks with respect to the funding of significant business, share and property acquisitions;
  • Australian bank (property finance): Acted for a bank with respect to joining an existing syndicated finance arrangement for an ASX listed property trust; and
  • Australian banks and financial service providers: Advised banks and other financial institutions on issues of regulatory compliance including in relation to Australian Financial Services Licensees and Australian Credit Licensees.
