Meghan Carruthers specialises in health law, providing advice to health care providers and their insurers.
Meghan’s experience includes acting for a variety of health professionals including doctors and nurses, and for public and private health facilities and advising medical practitioners and other health care providers in the defence of claims for professional negligence, in disciplinary proceedings and in coronial inquests.
She advises health care professionals and organisations in relation to range of medico-legal issues including risk management, ethics, clinical research, compliance, privacy, insurance and discrimination.
Meghan is also the firm’s National Pro Bono Coordinator. She administers and participated in the firm’s pro bono legal program, which provides advice to people who are marginalised and disadvantaged, and organisations working on their behalf.
Meghan’s recent experience includes:
- Local, district and supreme courts of NSW, federal and high courts:Acting in a variety of proceedings brought in the Local, District and Supreme Courts of NSW, and Federal and High Courts of Australia;
- Hospitals and health care providers: Advising on clinical risk and risk management for hospitals and other health care providers; and
- Health care professionals: Acting for health care professionals in disciplinary matters before the Health Care Complaints Commission, professional bodies and the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
